Obama at 100 Days — Assessments of Government Transparency and Regulatory Reform Efforts

Coalition for an Accountable Recovery Submits Comments on Recovery Act Implementation

The Coalition for an Accountable Recovery (CAR), coordinated by OMB Watch, recently submitted comments on the proposed implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). If heeded, CAR believes that the comments will help the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) establish a Recovery Act spending tracking system that will provide the level of transparency and accountability in federal spending articulated by President Barack Obama when he signed the act into law.

Bailout Watch Launches Website

On April 20, the Bailout Watch project, of which OMB Watch is a part, officially launched its website, www.bailoutwatch.net. The website, created and maintained by OpenTheGovernment.org on behalf of the project, is a clearinghouse for anyone interested in the financial bailout. The site includes the latest news, official reports, scheduled hearings and events, commentary, analysis, investigations, and research related to the bailout. The project headquarters also helps users track freedom of information requests and responses and provides a forum where the public can follow expert debate on major issues.

Government Transparency and You

Coalition Announces New Poll Finding Strong, Bipartisan Demand for Transparency in Economic Recovery Package

An overwhelming majority of voters want full and open reporting on how Recovery Act funds are spent at federal and state levels, according to a nationwide survey conducted on behalf of the Coalition for an Accountable Recovery. Further, roughly eight in ten voters say that making the U.S government more accountable and more open to average citizens should be a high priority for the new administration, and four out of ten said it is "one of the most important priorities."
