New Edition of Government Access Guide Available Online to Citizens

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (RCFP) published the tenth edition of the “Federal Open Government Guide” this week.  The guide provides resources to assist citizens to better understand and utilize the Freedom of Information Act.

The new version covers additional laws including the Government in the Sunshine Act (GSA), the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), and the Privacy Act. The GSA is the federal open meetings law concerning agency meetings while the FACA provides a right of access to records and meetings of advisors outside the government  Also updated is the section on FOIA which was ammended in late 2007.

RCFP is selling copies of the guide for $10 or you can use the online version for free.  The website guide includes an automated FOIA letter generator that creates requests as well as appeals.
