Obama to Drop Some Business Tax Cuts from Stimulus

Well, this is certainly good news (sorry, BNA email, no link):

Aides to President-elect Obama agreed late Jan. 12 to drop an unpopular idea to provide a $3,000 tax credit for companies hiring new workers from the economic stimulus package, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) told BNA.

A House Ways and Means Republican aide also said Jan. 13 that pushback against a five-year net operating loss carryback is putting that provision in question as well.

This job creation credit is perhaps the silliest of all the tax cuts in Obama's stimulus proposal. Hopefully prospects for the net operating loss carryback provision are getting dimmer by the hour. If all goes well, that and the bonus depreciation will be out by the time the package gets to Obama's desk.
