Bush Administration Limits Data Because of Limited Budget
by Craig Jennings, 2/14/2008
ThinkProgress notes that a government-run website that aggregates government-produced economic data is shutting down because of budgetary constraints. The website in question, EconomicIndicators.gov, is a nifty tool for the public not especially versed in economics navigating the various federal agencies that report economic data.
Economic Indicators is particularly useful because people can sign up to receive e-mails as soon as new economic data across government agencies becomes available. While the data will still be available online at various federal websites, it will be less readily accessible to members of the public.
And as TP suggests, retarding public access to economic data during an economic slow down works out rather nicely for an administration seeking to protect its good name as a steward of the economy.
