Korb: $60 billion in Defense Waste

Lawrence Korb, former Reagan administration official and fellow at the Center for American Progress, has a good report out on $60 billion of annual waste in the defense budget. It might seem paradoxical to call for reducing the size of the annual defense budget in the midst of war, as we did the last two years, and are doing again this year. Some might even call it unpatriotic or isolationist. But the fact is, even as our troops are deployed, the Pentagon is wasting tens of billions of dollars annually. Furthermore, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are not being funded by the regular annual defense budget. The costs of these wars are being paid for in supplemental appropriations that are considered separately from the defense budget that we analyze in this report.
