House Approves Amended Supplemental War Funding

Late Wednesday night, the House Appropriations Committee approved a $91 billion supplemental spending bill, which allocated $72.4 billion for the wars and $19.8 billion for hurricane relief. The new funding for the wars will push the total cost over $400 billion since the wars began. The bill approved by the committee made some modifications to the president's request, including increasing funding by $1 billion for Abrams tanks, Bradley vehicles and Humvees. To help offset the cost, the committee cut many items requested by the administration, including funding for the Air Force to cover increased fuel costs. The House is expected to vote on the bill next week and the Senate Appropriations Committee has scheduled a markup for March 30.
