OIRA Meeting Round-Up

OIRA has been keeping busy lately, meeting with representatives of Congress and industry over rulemakings. Here's a round-up of recent meetings:
  • On April 4, OIRA met again with congressional staff over the designation of special control for condoms. This time OIRA met with staff of Senator Durbin (D-IL) and three minority staff members from the House Government Reform Committee.
  • OIRA met with the US Chamber of Commerce and Lockheed Martin on April 7 over the Safety Act, which establishes limited liability for makers of anti-terrorist technologies.
  • OIRA also met with the National Association of Home Builders on April 8 over the definition of "disturb" as used by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The meeting record does not give any more detail, but the Fall 2004 Unified Agenda reveals that the Fish and Wildlife Service is considering a rulemaking to define "disturb" as it relates to the protection of bald eagles. The definition would be used to protect our national bird in the event that bald eagles are taken off the endangered species list. This meeting may be related to that rulemaking.
