Wal-Mart Amendment expected in House tomorrow
by Guest Blogger, 3/8/2005
Rep. John Boozman is expected to offer an amendment to the highway bill tomorrow. This Wal-Mart Amendment -- pushed by none other than Wal-Mart itself -- would allow corporate special interests to force truck drivers to work 16 hours a day, with no overtime.
The actual amount of time behind the wheel would not increase, but the additional two hours per day sought in the Wal-Mart amendment would increase the amount of time drivers are forced to work loading, unloading, and so on. The already-overworked drivers would be forced to work even longer days, leading to more fatigue and more accidents on the road.
