Rumsfield to Stay; Snow on His Way Out

The AP reports that Donald Rumsfield will stay on as secretary of defense. According to the New York Times, Secretary of Treasury John Snow is likely on his way out. White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card is seen as a likely replacement for Snow. Gerald L. Parsky, who served as an assistant treasury secretary in the Ford administration, and Phil Gramm, a former Republican senator from Texas, are also considered potential replacements for Snow. Deputy HHS Secretary for Health and Human Services Claude A. Allen is considered another possible successor for Tommy Thompson, who announced his departure on Friday. Senator John Breaux of Louisiana and former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich may also be in the running for the position.
