Take Action on the Budget -- Call Your Representatives
by Guest Blogger, 3/3/2005
TELL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS:
WE NEED A BUDGET RESOLUTION THAT MEETS OUR PRIORITIES!
NATIONAL CALL-IN DAY
TUESDAY, APRIL 12
As the House and Senate gear up to vote on the 2006 Congressional Budget Resolution, we need to tell our Senators and Representatives that we want to see a budget from them that maintains services to children and the elderly, keeps our communities strong, includes evenhanded budget rules that don't favor tax cuts over meeting our commitments, and accomplishes deficit reduction in a fair and balanced manner. Tell your members of Congress to reject a budget that would increase our deficit and that wouldn't include PAYGO provisions.
Call your members of Congress and urge them to write a fair and responsible resolution
Use this toll-free number, 1-800-247-2971 to be connected to your Senators and Representatives or directly call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. The toll-free number is provided courtesy of the American Friends Service Committee which has launched a new budget campaign, www.saveourservices.org. Don't be discouraged if the lines are busy -- we want calls to pour into the offices! You can also find your Senators' direct lines at www.senate.gov or your Representative’s direct line at www.house.gov.
Tell your members of Congress:
To protect children, older people, and families by opposing these cuts in nutrition, health care, education, and other vital services.
To oppose any budget that cuts basic services now or adds to our deficits by including billions more in tax giveaways for the wealthy.
To support responsible deficit reduction by demanding that any tax cuts be offset as well as spending (this is also called "two-sided paygo").
