Tell Congress to Reject Bush's Misplaced Budget Priorities

The president’s budget lays out his priorities for the federal government for fiscal year 2006. These priorities include steep cuts to Medicaid, Food Stamps for working families with children, education, National Parks, and child care assistance, as well as to many other areas. The President's budget not only proposes cuts for the coming year, but proposes 5-year caps on the total amount for programs needing annual appropriations. Inflation alone will shrink these programs by 16 percent in the 5th year (2010). The House and Senate budget committees are currently scheduled to markup their FY 2006 budget resolutions on March 9th and 10th, and the bill will then go to the floor of Congress the week after. The Congressional Budget Resolution must not contain the same misplaced priorities included in the budget proposed by the President. Take Action Now and Tell Congress They Can Do Better We need to tell our Senators and Representatives we are counting on them to produce a responsible resolution that maintains services to children and the elderly, keeps our communities strong, and includes evenhanded budget rules that don't favor un-paid for tax cuts while at the same time cutting services for vulnerable people. Legislators in Washington are making decisions right now. These decisions will impact millions of people across the country. Congress needs to hear from you what kinds of decisions you want. Make your voice heard today!
