The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced a new round of competition for $7 million in grants to intermediary organizations to provide technical assistance and sub-awards for capacity building to faith-based and community organizations. The goal of the grants is to help community and faith-based organizations increase the effectiveness of their social service programs. In addition, 25 percent of the funds awarded must be passed through as grants to selected sub-grantees for general capacity building. Applicants must provide 20 percent matching funds. The deadline for applications is May 18, 2004. The Office of Community Services will administer the grants for the Administration of Children and Families. They are authorized as Social Services Research and Demonstration activities under the Social Security Act and appropriations for the Departments of Labor, HHS and Education.
