Ohio EPA Data Quality Challenges
by Guest Blogger, 5/19/2003
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has denied the two earliest data quality requests, stating the information did not fall under the scope of the Information Quality Guidelines. An individual with the Ohio EPA submitted both requests. The first request called for corrections in the format of online documents. The second letter asked for technical clarifications of a document related to surface coatings of plastic parts. In the responses to the requests EPA claimed that the underlying data present in the documents was not in question- only format changes and clarifications were being requested. Additionally, since the requests did not fall within the scope of the Data Quality Guideline, EPA informed the requestor that the Guideline’s reconsideration procedures were not applicable and could not be used to contest the agency’s decision.
