Truthout Publishes OMB Watch Piece on Contracting

Truthout

Today, Truthout, an independent news and commentary website, published an article written by OMB Watch Executive Director Gary Bass and myself on constructive, manageable ways the Obama administration can reduce influence peddling in government contracting right now.

The piece uses the story of last decade's Boeing tanker lease scandal as a case study in the rampant abuse of influence peddling in federal contracting and the corrosive effects it can have on the government's disbursal of taxpayer funds.

We would like to see the Obama administration implement the reforms described in the article to help increase transparency and shine a light on undue influence in the federal procurement process. In doing so, we believe the administration will help to rebuild trust in government.

Truthout published the piece in its "Solutions: Making Government Work" section, which is compiled and edited by Dina Rasor, a longtime member of the transparency and accountability community, and founder of the Project on Military Procurement, the predecessor to the Project On Government Oversight (POGO).
