UPDATE: House Passes Statutory PAYGO Legislation 265-166
by Adam Hughes*, 7/22/2009
Just a quick update on the House's effort to reinstate Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) legislation. The full House passed H.R. 2920 this afternoon by a 265-166 vote. 24 Republicans joined with 241 Democrats to pass the bill by a pretty wide margin. Only 13 Democrats opposed the legislation.
While this is a significant achievement and may help to get health care reform legislation over a final hurdle ($) in the House, the Senate is unlikely to bring up the House passed bill. Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-ND) is opposed ($) to the House's system for reinstating PAYGO.
