Funding for Social Innovation Fund

The appropriations omnibus bill includes an increased budget for national service programs and provides 50 million for the new Social Innovation Fund. This is significant considering the House had earlier voted to spend only 35 million on the program.

The Corporation for National and Community Service's budget is also increased to 1.49 billion. However, the budget for a Volunteer Generation Fund was cut down to 4 million, as opposed to the 10 million proposed by the president. The Volunteer Generation Fund will provide grants to help charities recruit and manage volunteers. Only 1 million is allocated for the Nonprofit Capacity Building Program, which will provide grants to help promising small and medium size nonprofit groups expand effective programs.
