Black Friday, Cyber Monday…Now Get Ready for Giving Tuesday

Mere hours after Thanksgiving dinner ends, people spend billions of dollars in stores and online, first on Black Friday and then on Cyber Monday. This year, you have a chance to redirect some of those dollars to a day with a greater mission: Giving Tuesday.

In 2012, New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation teamed up to create a national day of giving. Aptly named “Giving Tuesday,” the day encourages Americans to give to charities and nonprofit organizations in honor of the holiday season. In its first year, about 2,500 organizations participated. Last year, participation jumped to include more than 10,000 organizations in the U.S. and abroad.

As the reach of this exciting event continues to grow, we at the Center for Effective Government are excited to announce our participation in Giving Tuesday. In addition to making a generous contribution to CEG, you can help spread the word by using the hashtag #GivingTuesday on social media and encouraging others to join in.

After the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we think coming together on Giving Tuesday to support organizations that give back to the community and the nation might hit the spot that all the shopping and turkey may have missed. Start a new Thanksgiving tradition with us and give a gift on Giving Tuesday.
